Workshop with Barbara Henning at Poets House

LIU Brooklyn English Professor Barbara Henning will be leading a workshop called From Journal to Poem at Poets House. 


Here's Professor Henning's description "In this workshop we’ll develop multiple ways of gathering material through writing and experimenting with journaling, researching and taking notes. We’ll explore walking/writing meditation, layered journaling, collaging from news and other resources, and more. Readings will be from Matsuo Basho, Harry Mathews, Jack Kerouac, Harryette Mullen, William Carlos Williams, Helene Cixous, Bernadette Mayer and Ed Sanders, among others. Students will leave the class with a collection of five poems or short prose pieces."

Barbara Henning is the author of three novels and nine books of poetry, her most recent a collection of poetry and prose, A Swift Passage. Born in Detroit, she has lived in New York City since 1983. A long-time yoga practitioner, she brings this knowledge and discipline to her writing and her teaching at Naropa University and Long Island University in Brooklyn, where she is Professor Emerita. A new book of poems, A Day Like Today, is forthcoming in 2015 from Negative Capability Press.
