First Year Writing Program Library Partnerships

The First Year Writing Program recently revised the curriculum to include a research-paper component in English 16. This change has led to a successful partnership with the LIU Brooklyn Library and the implementation of two required library-instruction sessions, which introduce students to information-literacy skills that not only benefit their work in English 16 but also prepare them for core-literature, writing-intensive courses at the major level, and other advanced courses.

While library-instruction sessions are not currently required for English 13 or English 14, instructors are encouraged to schedule library-instruction sessions. (See the Writing Program director for suggestions on how to integrate library instruction into the English 13 or English 14 curriculum.)
