Sigma Tau Delta to Induct Newest Members

The Omicron Zeta chapter of Sigma Tau Delta (the international English honors society) will have its annual induction ceremony and dinner on Friday, April 17th.

A Reading By Patrick Horrigan

Professor Patrick E. Horrigan (English) reads from his forthcoming novel, Portraits at an Exhibition (Lethe Press), on Saturday, May 2 @ 7pm in the East Village as part of the next installment of ACTORS WITH ACCENTS.

As usual, at ACTORS WITH ACCENTS you can expect a diverse group of actors, singers, writers, musicians, and (for the first time) dancers. The setting is informal, the conversation is brilliant, and there's free food and drink.  Mark your calendars!

Emily Drabinski Wins Publication of the Year Award

We are pleased to note that Professor Emily Drabinski (Library) has won the Ilene F. Rockman Publication of the Year Award from the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Instruction Section. 

The article, "Toward a Kairos of Library Instruction," which appeared in The Journal of Academic Librarianship, grew out of Drabinski's 2011 master's thesis, which Drabinski wrote in the LIU Brooklyn English Department, under the direction of Professor Patricia Stephens (Professor of English and Director of the LIU Brooklyn Writing Center).

Book Launch Party for Lewis Warsh & Fellow Ugly Duckling Presse Authors

We recently posted about the publication of a new collection of poems, Alien Abduction, from Professor Lewis Warsh (English).

We are now pleased to note that the publisher, Ugly Duckling Presse, has announced its Spring Book Launch, celebrating the release of Leslie Allison’s Martha, Filip Marinovich’s Wolfman Librarian, and Warsh’s Alien Abduction. Refreshments will be served.

FILIP MARINOVICH is the author of Zero Readership and And If You Don’t Go Crazy I’ll Meet You Here Tomorrow, both published by Ugly Duckling Presse. In Fall 2011 Filip served as librarian at The People’s Library at Occupy Wall Street and worked with Stephen Boyer as co-compiler of The Occupy Wall Street Poetry Anthology as well as performing in the weekly Poetry Assembly. LEWIS WARSH is the author of over thirty volumes of poetry, fiction and autobiography, including One Foot Out the Door: Collected Stories (Spuyten Duyvil, 2014), A Place in the Sun (Spuyten Duyvil, 2014) and Inseparable: Poems 1995-2005 (Granary Books, 2008). He is co-editor of The Angel Hair Anthology (Granary Books, 2001) and editor and publisher of United Artists Books. He has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council of the Arts, The Poet’s Foundation and The Fund for Poetry. He has taught at Naropa University, The Poetry Project, SUNY Albany and Long Island University (Brooklyn), where he was director of the MFA program in creative writing from 2007-2013 and where he currently teaches. Book Party for Louis Parascandola

On 10 April 2015, the the English Department will be hosting a book party for Professor Louis Parascandola (English) in the Robert Spector Lounge (Humanities Building, Fourth Floor).
