Workshop for English FACULTY:
Blogging in English Classes

Time: Friday, March 7, 12-2 PM
Place: Pratt Building, Room 614

For the answer...please join us on March 7 as we explore the technology and pedagogy of blogging.

In this workshop, you will learn how blogs work and discuss ways to use blogs in your English classes. Our own Melissa Antinori & Wayne Berninger (that's me!) will demonstrate how they incorporated blogs into their own teaching practice.

Call For Applications: Louis & Ann Parascandola Graduate English Award

You may apply for this Award if you are a graduate student (M.A. or M.F.A.) in the English Department and if you meet the following eligibility criteria:

*You have completed 24 graduate English credits by the end of Fall 2007.

*You have at least a 3.7 GPA.

Your application must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from a member of the graduate English faculty, as well as a sample of your writing (it may be a paper submitted for a graduate class or even a strong draft).

Application Deadline: April 25, 2008.

Blue Leaf Press is run by the MFA Program's very own Margot M. Nasti and Charles Thorne.

This event isn't technically a part of the MFA Reading Series, but the English Department is, of course, very pleased to help host this reading, which is a celebration of the first Blue Leaf publication, Quarto: Buttons -n- Boots, which features poems by Jessica Rogers, Margot M. Nasti, John High, Lewis Warsh, Joseph Garnevicus, Sarah Kolbasowski, Andrea Libin, and Charles Thorne.

Sandra Maria Esteves, of Dominican and Puerto Rican heritage, is one of the founders of the Nuyorican poetry movement. She is the author of several volumes of poetry including Bluestone Mockingbird Mambo.

Cheryl Boyce Talor, a native of Trinidad, has performed in Europe, Arica, and the Caribbean as well as throughout the U.S. She has written three collections of poetry, most recently Convincing the Body.

This reading is co-sponsored by the African Studies Program and the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Program.

The Brooklyn Campus of Long Island University is celebrating the launch of our new MFA in Creative Writing.

Help us welcome Jessica Hagedorn--novelist, playwright, screenwriter, poet--who joins us as the Parsons Family Professor of Creative Writing.

Professor Hagedorn will be introduced by Lewis Warsh, Director of the MFA Program, and she will read from her recent works. A reception will follow.
